Workin' on my Fitness

After moving from Newfoundland to Toronto in 2007 my activity level took a dive and so did my health...
In high-school I was about 110lbs (a little too skinny/boney for my liking) but I was very active in sports and just in general in my everyday life and because I lived in such a tiny area to get junk food/take out was a real effort!

Then I moved to St. John’s at 18 to go to school/work and as normal people do I gained weight. It ranged from 120 to 140, which I thought was healthy for me because I felt good. I was still pretty active and energetic even though I had a desk job at a call center for a number of years. I think this is where my good eating habits started to slide though. I ate take out more often and hardly ever ate breakfast. I was also cooking for myself at this point, french fries and chicken nuggets or ramen noodles being my favourite meal for awhile. But every poor student goes though that stage I think. I did learn how to cook eventually but I never did grasp the importance of portion control and balanced meals.

So after moving to Toronto my active level went to 0 and my eating habits stayed the same. Needless to say that was not good. I was tired ALL the time, I would come home from my desk job...eat...and then sit on the couch and watch TV all night till bed time. I gained 28lbs...I was at my heaviest...167.8lbs. It might not seem like a lot but I am only 5’-3”.

In Christmas 09 I started getting severe pains in my chest & arm...along with this heartburn feeling. In April it finally got bad enough that I threw up from the pain and I thought it was time to go to the doctor (procrastination at its worst). I found out that I had teeny tiny cists on my liver caused by my birth control that were irritating my gallbladder, but the ultra sound I had done also showed that I had a lot of fat on my liver. Unfortunately there is no magic pill for this one...just diet & exercise.

No more trans-fats, no more processed foods, more veggie and definitely more water. I started going to Booty Boot Camp which was awesome! I joined a “learn to run” group. Joined a gym and hired a trainer. Since last April I have lost 11.2lbs...I really haven’t lost any since August which is kind of discouraging but I did manage to make it through Christmas without gaining any. I will take any small victory.
So I’ve hit my plateau...now I need to get determined...wish me luck!
